AMAR JAWAN

6th of August 2013 - 5 Indian jawans were ambushed and killed at the LoC.

The news although being painful was nothing new for India. Pakistanis violating ceasefire, crossing the LoC and killing Indian soldiers has become a repetitive affair. Not many months ago another dastardly and inhumane attack by Pakistanis claimed the lives of two of our Indian jawans. They were not only killed but also beheaded!!

After the recent killings all eyes were set on how our political class would react to the incident. Surely they didn’t disappoint our expectations. A.K. Antony showed that our politicians aren’t competent enough to even give a proper official statement on such a critical issue. After much uproar in the Parliament did our defense minister come up with the correct version of the incident. At the end of the day if the top representatives of our country are busy juggling statements like jokers and are unable to issue a proper, final one then taking stern actions against Pakistan is a distant vision.

Every time such an incident takes place and you get to read and hear that India warning Pak not to take its restraint for granted. Peace talks are stalled and the Pak PM is asked to take proper actions. But nothing is actually done to cut off the root cause. Just playing with dialogues, warning statements and shouting Aman Ki Aasha won’t work. Something more realistic needs to be done because the ground reality is that precious lives are being lost and families are getting detached from their dear ones forever.

Pak army which goes hand in hand with terror outfits is a big worry for India. Dismantling of terror groups on Pakistani soil was part of the much talked about manifesto of new Pak PM-Nawaz Sharif. Its time he proves his worth. Indian politicians on the other hand need to put up a more united and sterner stand against Pakistan. Good army leadership with the readiness to retaliate as and when required is needed at the border. With India investing so much on its defense, it shouldn’t be hesitant on answering Pak’s challenges.

Last but not the least, politicians coming up with remarks like “people join Army and police to get martyred” show their insensitivity and lack of patriotism. They are no less than the Pakistanis who killed our soldiers. Such callous people should be suspended to help them get time in finding some sense.

It’s time the Indian government valued its soldiers. Routine condolences and announcement of aids to their families after their death is no way out. It’s time that action spoke more than words.

As a citizen of India I would like to pay my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

We would be celebrating 66 years of Independence on 15th August. I would like to pay salute and homage to the 5 Indian soldiers and many others who have laid down their precious lives till date in keeping our country Independent.

Rest in peace
